Some facts about chiropractic:

  • In 2017, the American College of Physicians released updated low back pain guidelines that recommend first using non-drug treatments, such as spinal manipulation, for acute and chronic low back pain.

  • A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2017 supports the use of spinal manipulative therapy as a first line treatment for acute low back pain.

  • 95% of past-year chiropractic users say it’s effective, and 97% of past-year chiropractic users are likely to see a chiropractor if they have neck/back pain.

  • In a Consumer Reports survey of over 45,000 people, chiropractic outperformed all other back pain treatments, including prescription medication, deep-tissue massage, yoga, pilates, and over-the-counter medication therapies.

  • Chiropractors are the highest rated healthcare practitioner for low-back pain treatments above physical therapists (PTs), specialist physician/MD (i.e., neurosurgeons, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons), and primary care physician/MD (i.e., family or internal medicine).

Muscles play a vital role in joint motion and our ability to move. Muscles are also a key component of joint stability. Massage therapy is a valuable tool to help heal soft tissue injury and massage also provides relief from the pain associated with soft tissue injury.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of thin needles into muscles and connective tissue.  The goal of acupuncture is to reduce muscle tension and to trigger endorphin release to decrease pain intensity.

Acupuncture is an extremely safe and effective therapy and is excellent at helping the body heal from injury.  The fact that acupuncture is such a gentle treatment makes it a great option for acute injuries, particularly strains of muscles related to whiplash.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation:

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is another great tool for rehabilitating soft tissue injuries. EMS has been shown to improve healing time by increasing blood flow to injured tissue. EMS is also beneficial as a means of reducing pain.

Therapeutic Ultrasound:

Therapeutic ultrasound is the introduction of ultrasonic sound waves to tissues. The sound waves pass through the skin and cause vibration of the local tissues. This vibration has been shown to increase tissue relaxation, local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The effect of the increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling and/or chronic inflammation.

Rehabilitative Stretches and Exercises:

Depending on the stage of healing, there is nothing that gets results quite like active care. Typically, as a patient progresses and pain levels decrease, the treatment plan begins to incorporate stretches and exercises. This is beneficial because it improves healing and active care decreases reliance on passive care.
